Cupcake Madness

21 Mar

I woke up yesterday, and had cupcakes on my mind.  My Fiance, Mr. Donut, woke up with basketball on his.  While it’s March Madness for him, it’s Cupcake Madness for me.  For the past two weeks, I’ve been making cupcakes every Sunday, and I think it would be fun to fill my brackets with the best cupcake recipes I know.  Some new, some old, heck maybe even a wild card or two.

I know I shouldn't have tried the batter as it had raw eggs, but it was delicious! So much chocolate.

Mr. Donut is currently in first place in his NCAA bracket at work, and I’m hoping that these chocolate cupcakes will go all the way.  However, it’s all up to you and my many friends and family to make the final decision.  Like the games this weekend, I think it’s going to be close and unpredictable.  Mr. Donut is still in shock over the University of Pittsburgh upset.

So here’s how it’s going to work, after this weekend there are sixteen teams left, competing to win the NCAA Championship.  I probably won’t be able to make sixteen different cupcakes by then, but I’m going for a Sweet Six.

Here’s my number 1 pick to go to the final four.

To My Sister with Love

14 Mar

When most people see me and my older sister they think we are twins.  It’s been like this forever, I remember being annoyed when people would ask, “Oh my goodness, are ya’ll twins? You look just alike.”  (That really is a direct quote, I’ve heard it so many times.) Our response, “Um, no.” How could you not tell the difference?  I mean she is three years older and there is an obvious height difference (at least when we were younger).  Even now, people sometimes mistake us for one another.

Breaking Bad Habits, One Meal at a Time

16 Feb

Last night was the ultimate test.  I was tempted to drop by the grocery store on my lunch break and pick up a few things for dinner.  Luckily, I got busy at work and did not have a chance to go.  If you have been reading my blog then you’ll know that I am trying to cook more, and use the foods I already have stocked in my fridge and pantry.  I have developed a habit of going to the grocery store and not using the foods I buy.  I attribute this horrible habit to my indecisive nature.  I can say I want spaghetti for dinner, but end up making meatloaf.  Seriously, it’s ridiculous, and I’ve wasted way too much money and food because of it.

My Valentine’s Baby

14 Feb

I don’t really have a Valentine’s baby, but my BFF does!  My Zsa Zsa, as I have nicknamed her, turned one yesterday. To celebrate her born day, I made her a giant cupcake cake, accompanied by red velvet and vanilla cupcakes.  It was my first attempt at making and using fondant, and let me just say this was a labor of love.  I know that it will never compare to what my BFF went through on the day Zsa Zsa was born, but it was exhausting.    Continue reading
